Estimate only, using each broker's published plan as stored in our database (default/basic plan) and current statutory rates. DP charges follow each broker's own counting rule (per stock per day, per sell order or per debit) and include 18% GST; see DP rules by broker. Excludes MTF interest, call & trade, auto square-off and other ancillary fees. Check the broker's official page for the latest tariff.
How it works
Choose a broker and a segment, enter the buy price, sell price and quantity. The calculator applies the broker's published brokerage rule (flat fee, percentage, "lower of" cap or per-lot) and the statutory rates shown on brokers' pricing pages:
- STT – delivery 0.1% on buy and sell; intraday 0.025% on sell; futures 0.05% on sell; options 0.15% of premium on sell.
- Exchange transaction charges (NSE) – 0.00307% equity; 0.00183% futures; 0.03553% of premium for options.
- SEBI fee – ₹10 per crore.
- Stamp duty (buy side) – 0.015% delivery; 0.003% intraday; 0.002% futures; 0.003% options.
- GST – 18% on brokerage, exchange charges and SEBI fee.
- DP charge – added for delivery sells where the broker publishes a simple per-scrip figure.
For options, enter the premium as the price; turnover is premium × quantity.
Limitations
The calculator does not include IPFT charges, clearing charges, promotional offers, paid-plan brokerage or slab-based rates for high-value clients. Your contract note is the final record of charges.
Worked example: a delivery trade at Zerodha
You buy 100 shares at ₹1,000 and later sell them at ₹1,020 (delivery, NSE). Buy value is ₹1,00,000 and sell value ₹1,02,000, so turnover is ₹2,02,000.
| Charge | How it is calculated | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Brokerage | Zerodha charges ₹0 for equity delivery | ₹0.00 |
| STT | 0.1% of buy value + 0.1% of sell value | ₹202.00 |
| Exchange transaction charge | 0.00307% of turnover | ₹6.20 |
| SEBI fee | ₹10 per crore of turnover | ₹0.20 |
| Stamp duty | 0.015% of buy value | ₹15.00 |
| GST | 18% of (brokerage + exchange charge + SEBI fee) | ₹1.15 |
| DP charge | Per scrip, on the sell day | ₹15.34 |
| Total | ₹239.90 |
The gross profit is ₹2,000, so the net profit after charges is about ₹1,760. Note how STT, not brokerage, is the largest cost on a delivery trade — "zero brokerage" does not mean zero cost. Break-even is roughly ₹2.40 per share above your buy price.
How to use the result
- Comparing brokers: keep the same prices and quantity and switch the broker. For delivery trades the gap between brokers is mostly brokerage and DP charge; statutory charges are identical everywhere.
- Intraday and F&O: small price moves can be wiped out by costs. Check the break-even figure before you place a trade, not after.
- Options: enter the premium (not the strike) as the price and the total quantity (lots × lot size). Brokers that charge per lot use the lot size field.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting how the DP charge is counted on delivery sells. Zerodha and Upstox charge once per stock per day, but Groww and Angel One charge for every sell order, so enter the number of sell orders in the calculator. See each broker's DP rule.
- Comparing a broker's paid plan to another broker's free plan. The calculator models each broker's default published plan, shown under the broker selector.
- Assuming GST applies to STT or stamp duty. It does not; GST is charged only on brokerage, exchange charges and the SEBI fee.
Statutory rates change from time to time (the exchange and SEBI publish circulars when they do). We re-check the rates in this calculator at least every quarter along with broker fees; the date is shown at the bottom of this page.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my contract note slightly different?
Exchanges can differ (NSE vs BSE), rounding is applied per order, and small charges like IPFT or clearing fees are not modelled. Promotional pricing also changes the result.
Does the calculator include income tax?
No. It only shows transaction costs. Tax on gains depends on your holding period and income.
