Choosing a trading app
The best app is the one that is reliable at market open, shows your costs clearly and does what you need without clutter. We describe features from each broker's official website; we do not publish app-store ratings, as they change daily.

How we tested these trading apps
This is not a paid ranking. We used each app and looked at the things that decide whether it is pleasant or painful to trade from a phone: speed, layout, chart quality and how well it handles a bad connection.
- Speed and stability — load times and behaviour under load.
- Charts and tools — the quality of charts, watchlists and order types.
- Everyday usability — navigation, search and clarity of the order screen.
- Fee display — whether the app shows charges before you confirm.
A great app does not lower your costs on its own — check the fee side with the brokerage calculator.
Worked example: brokerage on small app orders
App users often place small orders. Delivery brokerage per order at three ticket sizes:
| App (broker) | ₹500 order | ₹5,000 order | ₹50,000 order |
|---|---|---|---|
| Groww | ₹5.00 | ₹5.00 | ₹20.00 |
| Zerodha | ₹0.00 | ₹0.00 | ₹0.00 |
| Upstox | ₹20.00 | ₹20.00 | ₹20.00 |
| Angel One | ₹5.00 | ₹5.00 | ₹20.00 |
| 5paisa | ₹20.00 | ₹20.00 | ₹20.00 |
| HDFC SKY by HDFC Securities | ₹12.50 | ₹20.00 | ₹20.00 |
HDFC SKY's rule is "₹20 or 2.5%, whichever is lower", so tiny orders cost 2.5% (₹12.50 on ₹500). Groww and Angel One apply a ₹5 minimum, which is 1% of a ₹500 order. Zerodha's ₹0 delivery brokerage is the only rule here that stays at zero at every size; its DP charge applies when you sell.
